Who needs life insurance?
If you are a Singaporean who is planning to move abroad or are a former Singaporean who has just moved abroad and has financial liabilities within Singapore, then life insurance is a great insurance policy to implement.
If you already have a life insurance policy in Singapore, it is best to review your policy documents or talk to your insurance provider, as these policies generally do not cover you if you live outside Singapore, so if you die while living in another country, the policy you will not be paid.
The cost of life insurance can depend on a variety of factors including how much responsibility you have in Singapore, the type of coverage you are applying for, and if the country you are moving to is classified as dangerous, to name a few examples.
Life Insurance: What you need to know
Examples of acceptable financial liabilities include mortgages on Singapore property, dependent spouses, and/or minor children living in Singapore. Singapore heritage tax liability. Responsible for paying fees for Singapore private schools, universities, or nursing homes. Or a Singapore company that has persons or major shareholders overseas.
- Level and decrease (mortgage) guarantees that provide at once
- Whole life insurance with open term
- Family income benefits that provide a monthly income in the event of a claim
- Three different critical illness options suit a variety of conditions and estimates
- The policy may be for the life of an individual or the life of another provided the policy owner will suffer financial loss as a result of the death of the life insured.
How to get life insurance
As long as you meet the above criteria, you should definitely be able to seek life insurance coverage. As long as the coverage you are asking for is a genuine claim, then the insurance provider is happy to provide life insurance. This means that the amount of cover you will receive, should you need to make a claim, is commensurate with your liabilities in Singapore.
When applying for life insurance, the underwriting process performed by the insurance provider is very similar to standard life insurance, including further inquiries and/or assessments if you have a pre-existing medical condition.

I bought travel insurance in February 2020 for my trip to London from 3/8 to 16/8/2020 unfortunately due to 19 covid conditions, we had no option of not being able to travel, I asked for a refund of my premium the company rejected my request.
It should also be noted that this was a period of very great uncertainty where I had a hard time remembering that I had to ask for this refund before my trip started because my trip didn’t even start because of Covid-19. I actually can’t believe that your company is so rigid and incomprehensible despite being in a state of a global epidemic.
We are also not allowed to travel in this covid state. It’s not accurate to expect us to remember when our journey should have started, especially since I was busy applying for a refund with SQ in the first place – which respectfully reminds us to ask for a refund.
For trips that are completely canceled by the government, should the refund not be done automatically, or should your company not send us warnings/notifications?
I am amazed at the service and value of your company and this is the last time I will buy insurance from your company again. I will definitely share this frustrating experience with my family and friends. May Neo
